Monolith ART

by Stephen Oliver / 15 January 2013 / Published in Gallery, News
Monolith

Started a new piece yesterday – Monolith. The idea came to me one day last week.

The concept was born from necessity – I need a beacon at the front of the gallery as a guiding light to all art lovers. The column will stand 183cm tall, 61cm wide and 50cm deep (72 x 24 x 19½ inches).

Construction of the frame was finished yesterday, today I was stretching and gluing the canvas over the boards. After a couple of applications of gesso the support is now ready for paint.

About

Nature plays a large part in my work — particularly skies and stretching perspectives. Representing the 'feel' of nature, very often as an abstraction using various techniques in oil, acrylic, or watercolour.
